Abstract

This study uses a quantitative approach with a causal research design to analyze the influence of work-life balance and competence on career development through compensation as an intervening variable. The subjects of this study were students who have dual roles as workers and students at a university in Jakarta. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires distributed to 92 respondents selected from a population of 120 students using the Krejcie and Morgan table. The data analysis technique used in this study was Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on SmartPLS to examine the direct and indirect relationships among variables. The findings indicate that work-life balance and competence have a significant positive effect on compensation, but do not directly influence career development. Meanwhile, compensation has a significant positive effect on career development and also serves as a mediating variable linking work-life balance and competence to career development. These findings highlight the importance of fair compensation in supporting the career advancement of students with dual roles, while emphasizing the need for balanced management between academic responsibilities and professional demands.
